Welcome to EricMakesMusic.com
Well, here we are. This is my new home (on the web)
Take a look around. Make your self at home.
Here you’ll be able to check out all the songs that I’m working on. There may be songs that I write for myself or songs that I create for others (clients, producers). I’ll post put up cool things that I find on the web (which is pretty much where I live), new music, videos or books that I discover. If something inspires me, I’ll share it and pass it along.
Listen, Download, Share… as much as you like
Most of the songs will be free to download (unless it was created for someone else). So feel free to take them, put them on your mp3 player, pass them around.
Please leave me comments
I live for comments. Even negative ones. There’s nothing better than knowing what someone thinks of a songs I created. So, if you comment on the songs I’ve posted, I promise I’ll post more. Go ahead, be brutally honest. Trust me, I have really thick skin. Seriously, I’ve had it measured… it’s like 2 inches or something.

Hey man,
good to hear that you’re busy with your projects and back up running your blog again.
Funny thing about comments, good and bad. I always took the approach that the artist has to please him/herself first. So my fave artists really don’t care to know what their fans think, they avoid the internet message boards about them. But still, I think that deep down inside, don’t they really want to be liked or have positive feed back? I always wondered about a guy like Bob Dylan….he’s had a general disdain for the media and public attention going waaaay back, does he secretly care about what someone thinks?
Nice songs! “Bullshit” has a great groove, I dig it!

@ Eric from MD:
Very interesting. It true, people like Miles Davis and others made their music seemingly without worrying about how it was received (I suspect deep down they really do care). Maybe its’ just defense mechanism. Act like you don’t care so people can’t hurt your feelings (most musicians I know are really sensitive when it comes to their work).
I like feedback. I don’t have to agree without and it may or may not affect how I create but I make my music for people. So, I’d like to know if anybody is feeling it.
Thanks for switching over Eric. Good to hear from you.

Interesting point about a defense mechanism. I’m pretty sensitive too when it comes to some demo I made. But it’s funny because you never know what people will gravitate to or what they’ll like. I’ve read interviews where classic rock guys like Neil Young have said that an audience’s expectations never enter into his mind, that he couldn’t work like that if he was always wondering what the audience and fans thought. Pete Townshend from the Who said he never understood why some stupid throwaway songs they did in the 60’s were fan favorites.
While I can be defensive, I’ll have to say that I don’t mind feedback if it’s from other musicians or people who can give me guidance or something to constructive to work on, eg, the transition back to the verse wasn’t smooth enough, try throwing in some passing chords. Afterall, I’m woodshedding and making demos in my basement because it pleases ME first. i know, it’s a very selfish thing, but I’ll eventually get around to seeing if anyone else likes it.

I think I’ve come to a point where I can compartmentalize feedback. One of the first things I do when I finish a song (before I send it out to the public) is get it reviewed by a close knit group of people who’s feedback I value. I’m very critical about who gets the first listen because everybody doesn’t listen the same way.
After that I still solicit and accept feedback from everyone but I also compartmentalize it based on whether I know them… whether we have similar music tastes..etc.
But I agree with Pete Townshend… sometimes I don’t get why people like one thing and dislike another.
